Demand an inquiry into allegations against Christian Porter

A collective voice is growing for an independent inquiry into the allegations against  Christian Porter, and whether he a fit and proper person to hold a Ministerial position. Now there's a bill for the Parliament to establish such an inquiry.

Over 100,000 people took to the streets across the country demanding that our governments take action to stop violence against women and ensure that women who come forward are believed and perpetrators are held to account for their actions, no matter their power, position or status in our society.

But after months of pressure, the only action the Prime Minister has taken is to move Mr Porter to a different ministry. Mr Porter remains in cabinet.

People from across the political spectrum and our community have been calling on the  Prime Minister to order an independent inquiry into whether Christian Porter is fit to serve in our nation’s cabinet

The Prime Minister has rejected the call. That's why the Greens have moved to introduce a Bill to establish an inquiry and we're asking you to get in touch with Liberal MPs to demand they support the introduction and passage of the bill.

The Prime Minister has so far ignored this groundswell call for action, so we need to keep up the pressure on our local representatives to remind them that they need to listen to the people and support the Ministerial Suitability Commission of Inquiry Bill.

Other information to consider including:

  • An independent inquiry into the allegations against Christian Porter will not ‘threaten the rule of law’: legal experts have confirmed that the rule of law and presumption of innocence would not be undermined by an independent inquiry.  In fact, non-criminal inquiries are common place in the legal system and in the private sector such as coronial inquiries, royal commissions, ombudsman investigations and private investigations. The government frequently establishes these types of inquiries.
  • By not establishing an independent investigation, we risk ‘trial by media’ being the only avenue for arguments and counter-arguments for the allegation to be aired.
  • Christian Porter’s reputation and career may be ruined: an independent investigation allows Christian Porter to clear his name if he is innocent.
