Let’s Ban Greyhound Export

Let’s Ban Greyhound Export

Between 2016 and 2021, 1,313 greyhounds were exported overseas from Australia. The current ineffective rules that regulate greyhound export for reasons such as breeding, racing, and other commercial purposes, means that these animals are frequently at risk of serious cruelty, neglect, and abuse.

On 1 September 2021, Senator Mehreen Faruqi introduced the Customs Legislation Amendment (Commercial Greyhound Export and Import Prohibition) Bill 2021.

The legislation will ban the export and import of greyhounds to and from Australia for commercial purposes including breeding and racing. This ban also includes a prohibition on the export or import of breeding material.

While we continue our campaign to shut down greyhound racing in Australia, the welfare of these poor dogs must also be protected and the way to do this is through a simple yet important reform.

Will you send an email to David Littleproud (Minister for Agriculture) and Julie Collins (Shadow Minister for Agriculture) to ask for their support on the ban of commercial greyhound exports?
